Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson’s Disease is a life altering diagnosis and can be very limiting to a person’s function. However, physical therapy has been shown to improve quality of life and improve overall movement/mobility for individuals with PD. Inspired PT’s therapist will do a comprehensive examination to evaluate your priority impairments and develop a functional based rehabilitative program aimed at improving overall function and quality of life. They will take the time to explain their findings and the treatment plan they have developed specifically for you. A treatment program for Parkinson’s Disease may include:
- LSVT Big program
- Manual therapy (Graston/IASTM, joint mobilizations, strain-counter strain, myofascial release techniques, traction, kinesiotaping, massage, etc)
- Modalities (heat, ice, electrode therapy)
- ROM/mobility exercise
- Strengthening exercises
- Education and home exercise program
Common symptoms of Parkinson’s disease or parkinsonism
- Tremor (trembling) in hands, arms, legs, jaw or head
- Stiffness of the limbs and trunk
- Slowness of movement
- Impaired balance and coordination
